Nottingham Trent University has an outstanding reputation for our commitment to research that shapes lives and society. As part of our continued pledge to invest in research excellence, we are delighted to announce the availability of twelve fully funded PhD bursary places.

The School of Arts and Humanities invites applications from well qualified candidates, who have or expect to graduate with good Masters level qualifications, to undertake doctoral studies in a range of the School's subject areas.

The School of Arts and Humanities invites applications from well qualified candidates, who have or expect to graduate with good Masters level qualifications, to undertake doctoral studies in a range of the School's subject areas.

We particularly welcome applications in the following areas:

Communication, Culture and Media
Areas of research expertise include Inequality, culture and difference; Gender and sexuality; Globalisation, migration and diasporas; film and TV; New media cultures; Linguistic strategies in communication.

English Studies
Areas of research expertise include early modern literature; travel writing; literature of the Romantic period; postcolonial writing; American literature; gender and sexuality.

French
Areas of research expertise include French cinema, contemporary visual cultures, women and society, French politics and protest movements, lesbian, gay and queer studies, modern and contemporary literary studies, religion and secularism, French theory and contemporary philosophy.

History
Areas of research expertise include medieval and early modern British and European history; early modern Spanish American history; modern and contemporary British, European and North American history; public history; global history.

The scholarships will pay UK / EU fees and provide a maintenance stipend linked to the RCUK rate (£13,726 per annum for 2013/14) for up to three years.

Researchers in the School work in collaboration with a range of scholars from across the academic community in Britain and Ireland as well as in North America, continental Europe and the Far East. This has the benefit of creating a varied and informed research community with links throughout the world that enhance the experience of research staff and research students. This international perspective helps to attract research students from across the world.

Support and supervision
During your research you will be supported by a dedicated supervision team with specialist knowledge in your field of activity. You will also have full access to student support centres, financial advice, careers advice, disability support, counselling and an accommodation service.
