Description
This is a one day integrated training and assessment course for anyone responsible for carrying out pest control involving mice and rats. It is intended to provide a working knowledge of both preventative and curative methods of controlling pests.

With effect from 26 November 2013 anyone wishing to purchase and use aluminium phosphide products will need to successfully complete the Level 2 Award in The Safe Use of Aluminium Phosphide for Vertebrate Pest Control.

This is a one-day training course which is mainly classroom based. However, there will be some outdoor walking and demonstrations will take place on the Brackenhurst campus. You will therefore need suitable outdoor clothing.

Assessment
You will be assessed through integrated training and assessment leading to a Nottingham Trent University Certificate of Attendance.

Place of study
Study takes place at the Brackenhurst campus. Located near the market town of Southwell and just 14 miles from Nottingham city centre, Brackenhurst is an idyllic, 200-hectare estate with specialist units, making it a unique place to learn. Brackenhurst benefits from:

Course content

The course will equip you to:

  • identify pests and the typical symptoms of damage
  • identify the degree and source of infestation
  • state the legislative obligations and responsibilities regarding control
  • identify the lifestyle habits and habitats of pests
  • plan, implement and monitor an effective control programme for pests, and
  • select and carry out the appropriate methods of pest control in line with current legal guidelines and recognise good practice.
