Course focus
Securing the objectives of a construction project is fundamentally
the result of effective management of the procurement process.
The course focuses on the development of the knowledge and skills in meeting such demands. You will learn how to organise, control and manage the costing of building projects - covering topics from International Construction Appreciation and Contract Administration to Construction Technology and Sustainability.

Year One
- Architectural Science and Building Engineering Services (20 credits)
- Fundamentals of Construction and Practice (20 credits)
- Introduction to Measurement and Cost (20 credits)
- Law and Health and Safety (20 credits)
- Practice in the Workplace (20 credits)
Year Two
- Construction Technology (20 credits)
- Estimating, Measurement and Cost (40 credits)
Year Three
- Sustainability Technology with Environmental Control (20 credits)
- Contract Administration: Control and Finance (20 credits)
- Law and Contemporary Economics (20 credits)
Year Four
- Construction Procurement and International Studies (20 credits)
- Contract Practice (20 credits)
- Industrial Practice Quantity Surveyors (20 credits)
Year Five
- Facilities Management and Maintenance (20 credits)
- Dissertation (40 credits)
*If students are not working in a related role in the construction industry the modules in Year One will be studied over two years, extending the course to six years.
How do you study?
The part-time study route
is taught one day a week and, where possible, part-time students
are taught alongside full-time BSc Quantity Surveying students.
The modules in Year One are shared with BSc (Hons) Construction Management and BSc Quantity Surveying and Construction Commercial Management. This enables you to develop a multi-disciplinary perspective and gives the flexibility to switch to either of the other courses at the start of your second year (subject to your original entry qualifications).
This course is modular and teaching is delivered through:

- tutorials
- workshops
- laboratory sessions
- seminar groups
- site visits
- individual and group projects.
The delivery of the course is enhanced by:
- the incorporation of guest lectures delivered by external practitioner experts
- extensive use of case studies and projects (some set by real companies)
- field trips.
Assessment
Assessment is by a combination of examinations, coursework and
project work.
