This course is designed to meet the needs of fast-paced marketing careers across all organisational sectors, ensuring your skills are right up to date when you enter the jobs market. The course is accredited by the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM), which is the leading professional body for marketers worldwide.
Nottingham Trent University has joined forces with CIM to give our students the opportunity to gain CIM professional qualifications through their Multi Award Pathway (MAP). CIM qualifications are highly sought after by employers, and MAP alongside our own Marketing degrees, to ensure we are equipping our students with the best opportunities for a successful marketing career.
Professional qualifications include:
- Introductory Certificate in Marketing
- CAM Digital Diploma
- CIM Professional Certificate.
CIM modules are included throughout the course, and the qualifications you graduate with will depend on the modules you choose to study, and whether you choose to take a placement year. You will also need to achieve at least a 2:2 overall to be awarded the CIM qualifications. Working towards these qualifications will cost you no more than the standard tuition fees.
Building on a firm grounding in marketing theory and practice, during the course you will explore the subject from a variety of perspectives, including digital as well as traditional forms of marketing and communications. You will have the opportunity to study the most up-to-date developments in marketing, have access to the latest industry tools and technologies, and will benefit from the option to engage in hands-on work experience.
Unique OpportunitiesThe course is three or four-years depending on whether you want to gain some industry experience by taking a year's placement. Those not taking the placement year can choose from a range of exciting new options including a short internship, studying abroad and running an enterprise or community project.
All students, both full-time and placement, will also complete a two-week insight internship at the end of Year One.

Our marketing graduates pursue careers in marketing management, advertising, public relations, brand management, event management, e-commerce, advertising, retail management and consultancy, both in the UK and globally.

Year Two
First half of year (Oct - Jan)
All students will study the following modules in the first half of the second year:
- Research and Planning for Marketing
- Buyer Behaviour
- Integrated Marketing Communications
Second half of year
During the second half of the year full-time students not doing a placement will be able to choose from the following opportunities:
- Study Abroad
- 16-18 week internship
- Enterprise project
- Community project
Alternatively students can carry on with the following taught modules:
- Managing in Marketing
- Delivering Customer Value
- Digital Essentials OR Exploring Strategy and Innovation
Students on the four-year course will also complete these modules during the second half of the year.
Year Three
Placement year for those taking this option. There will also be be a CIM module, Stakeholder Marketing, to complete, for students working towards the professional qualifications.

How will I learn?
The course incorporates a wide range of teaching methods including:

Project based learning forms an important element of your learning on this course and the group activities will develop your ability to work in a team and enhance your employability.
You will benefit from the latest industry tools and technologies, and will have access to the wide array of resources available at Nottingham Business School.
Students working towards the CIM professional qualifications will learn via distance learning to complete the CIM module (Stakeholder Marketing) whilst on placement.

On average you will receive 12 - 15 hours of teaching per week from a combination of lectures and seminars. You'll then be expected to increase your understanding of the subject area through independent study for each module.
Additional to this, you will also have further time tabled contact time for your induction, at the beginning of the year and sessions on employability and opportunities that you can get involved with while at University.
Personal tutor sessionsYou will also have a number of one-on-one tutor sessions during each year, which will allow you to:
- Discuss and gain feedback about your work.
- Ask questions about the projects you're working on.
- Raise any difficulties you are experiencing relating to your work, personal circumstances or your University experience.
During your first year, these sessions will be scheduled approximately once a fortnight. During your second and final year, this will be approximately once a month.
Virtual learning environmentYou'll also use our virtual learning environment, NOW, which is a flexible web-based system that allows you to have 24-hour access to module learning materials and reading lists. It allows you to discuss work with tutors and other students, and submit coursework electronically from anywhere in the world.
Learning from industry expertsDeveloped by professional marketers, employers and academics, this course benefits from associations with professional bodies such as the Chartered Institute of Marketing to ensure your skills are in line with the demands of the industry.
Our tutors have industry experience in their specialist field, which means you will gain practical insight into these fields and how companies are run.
How will I be assessed?As well as attending lectures, seminars and workshops, you will also carry out:
- hands-on computing
- personal research and essay / report writing
- case studies
- group work
- individual projects
- role play
- case studies
- presentations.
You will typically be assessed through a combination of coursework, projects and examinations. The course has been designed to help you develop a range of practical skills. You can find further details about these skills in the 'how will I learn?' section above. Formative assessment will be provided by your tutors for many practical elements of the course.
All CIM modules will be double assessed by both NTU and CIM, which ensures that your degree award is always protected.
In response to student feedback the University has introduced a policy that ensures you are given feedback on assessment within three weeks of submission.
