Why study the BA (Hons) Management and Leadership

Studying via this route allows students to work full-time within the company and study for a degree at the same time. Sponsorship packages vary by company, but generally companies will pay a salary and cover tuition fees. The huge financial savings are an obvious benefit, but being fully employed helps to improve your learning and the experience you develop over the period will be invaluable to your future career.

What will I study?

Year One

The degree will commence with an induction week including team building exercises at Nottingham Trent University. This will begin to develop effective study skills, ensure you are able to use the wide range of online resources available and let you meet other students on your course. Prior to this you will have had an induction with your sponsoring company.

As students will be studying whilst working, the four modules below will be studied over four one week study blocks with several weeks in-between where you will be working with the company and completing coursework.

  • Markets and Customers
  • People and Organisations
  • Introduction to Accounting and Finance
  • Corporate Elective Module (to be decided by the company)

The two modules below are studied with some supervisory contact, but mainly through independent learning and reflection over the first year.

  • Business Enterprise Project
  • Professional Development

Your learning in Year one will be supplemented by tutor visits and online-support.

Year Two

The two modules below will again be studied over week long study blocks.

  • Competitive Strategy and Innovation
  • Corporate Elective 2 (to be decided by the company)
  • Business Improvement Project

The other module will be delivered with some supervisory contact throughout the year, as well as visits and online support.

  • Personal Management and Leadership Development

Year Three

Students in year three are able to use the knowledge and skills developed in earlier modules to pursue areas of interest specific to their own roles and areas of business.

There is one taught module which will be studied over a week long study block:

  • Strategic Leadership and Change Management

The modules below commence with an initial briefing study block, followed by supervisory contact throughout the year, with the main emphasis on independent learning and reflection.

  • Strategy in Practice
  • Professional Management and Leadership
  • Dissertation

How will I learn?

Over the three years you will work full-time for your sponsoring company. During this time, the company will release you to attend Nottingham Trent University’s intensive study blocks of 3-16 days duration depending on the module.

The programme uses a variety of teaching, learning and assessment methods, including:

  • group work
  • written assignments
  • presentations and extended projects.

These methods are designed to not only assess your critical understanding of theory and concept but to develop your professional capabilities, skills and abilities to apply these in real work situations.

A range of teaching methods will be used, including lecturers and seminars activities which students can relate to their own roles and organisation.
