This course is ideal for people who are competent computer users but who have not had the opportunity to use Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator in a fashion portfolio context. The course focuses on producing industry-standard working drawings and production sketches. You will also learn the essential functions of the software that will make your life as a designer simpler and more efficient.

This course is ideal for people who are competent computer users but who have not had the opportunity to use Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator in a fashion portfolio context. The course focuses on producing industry-standard working drawings and production sketches. You will also learn the essential functions of the software that will make your life as a designer simpler and more efficient.

There are two key audiences for this course:

  • current fashion practitioners who need to update their skills to include CAD - an essential skill for all successful designers
  • fashion graduates and new professionals who need to stand out from their peers and ensure their portfolio is industry-ready when applying for new jobs.

The course is based on PCs with the Adobe Creative Suite software. You will have the option to create your own brief that is based on your area of interest whether that is men's, women's, children's wear or even soft accessories. We will discuss examples and images from industry and you will have time to develop your skills and personal style. As well as demonstrating techniques to the group there will also be time for one-to-one tutorials to aid your development.

Upon completion of the course you will have the beginnings of an industry-appropriate portfolio, as well as folder of software instructions and new technical skills ready for you to embark on your future as a designer. Also included in the course; a reading list provided to suggest further reading which also includes links to helpful online resources and a set of ready to use fashion specific Illustrator brushes.
