Is this course for me?

This recently validated course is suitable for those intending to start a professional IT career. It can be studied on either a full time or part time basis. (NB Part time students study over a third Semester which finishes in August). This University of Hertfordshire college-based programme will not only give you the opportunity to study IT but to develop the necessary knowledge and skills that will give you a significant advantage in the job market and in your future career. This course is suitable for students aiming for a full degree but wishing to study locally, or for those who wish to gain a fully recognised HE qualification in two years.

What qualifications or skills do I require to study this course?

120 or more UCAS points which must be made up of at least one full GCE A level (A2), a BTEC National Diploma/Certificate or equivalent, together with 4 subjects at GCSE at Grade C or above including Maths and English Language or equivalent. Applications will be considered from those working in relevant employment that may not fully meet the above entry requirements but have a number of year’s relevant experience.

What does the course involve?

You will have a choice of studying on the following pathways: - MEDIA SYSTEMS - SOFTWARE DEVELOPMENT - NETWORKS. Year 1 Modules include: - Developing Professional and Employability Skills - Understanding Programming - Computer Systems Architecture - Understanding Databases & Data Analysis - Further Programming - Computer Networks & Introduction to Wireless - Systems Analysis - (Specialist modules specific to pathways above). Year 2 Modules include: - Work Based Learning Project/Advanced Research Methods - Advanced Programming & Paradigms - Web Based Systems and HCI - Computing in Business - Web Applications & Mobile Technologies - (Specialist and optional modules specific to pathways above)

What option will be open to me if I successfully complete the course? Foundation Degree can provide progression to the final year of a degree at the University of Hertfordshire in: BSc (Hons) Computer Science BSc (Hons) Interactive and Multimedia Computing BSc (Hons) Information Technology BSc (Hons) Software Systems for Art and Media Successful completion also prepares you to enter careers in a wide variety of industrial, commercial, technological, financial or service businesses, or to specialise in an academic or professional career.
