This course is designed to appeal to learners who are interested in achieving a national qualification in sport through studying aspects related to the sport and leisure industry. A range of study methods is used including lectures, practicals and tutorials; in addition, students will undertake work experience in the industry to improve their employability levels. Continuous assessment includes assignments, written and practical tests and work experience.

What does the course involve?

The BTEC Level 1 Diploma in Sport and Active Leisure offers students the opportunity to study sport both practically and academically. The course includes a range of practical sports and investigations into the business, organisation and safety requirements for sporting activities. The qualification is the beginning of the road for those students who want to develop sporting knowledge and skills

What option will be open to me if I successfully complete the course? Students may progress onto the Level 2 Diploma in Sport. Alternatively they may seek employment within the sports industry. These courses can lead to careers in teaching, sports coaching, the leisure industry, fitness advice, sports journalism, Local Authority sport and recreation departments, the Armed Forces, the police, sports therapy and sports research.
