For those returning to education, life skills and experience in the workplace may allow entry subject to availability.
WHO IS THE COURSE FOR?
This course is designed for students to experiment to an advanced level with Fashion and Textile projects in order to gain a Higher National Diploma qualification. Students may then use their HND to apply for further study in higher education from year 2 or 3 in order to obtain a degree in a related area of fashion and textiles.
HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED?
This course is mainly assessed on a continuous basis and does not include an external end-of-course examination. Coursework takes the form of practical project work and visual presentation and written reports. College staff undertakes most of the assessment of student work.
PROGRESSION ROUTES / CAREER OPPORTUNITIES
Students successfully completing this course may wish to apply to University for entry into the second or third year of a degree. Successful completion could allow entry to Year 2 or Year 3 at The Robert Gordon University (Grays School of Art) or Dundee University (Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design). Articulation with Heriot-Watt University is also a popular progression for many fashion & textile students. The College of Textiles allows entry to the second or third year of the Textiles and Fashion Degree Management for successful HND students. Some students may wish to start up their own business as an independent textile designer for fashion or interiors. Students successfully completing HND Textiles will be eligible to progress directly to year 3 of the BA degree offered through the OU, designed for students who have gained an HND in a creative industries discipline.
