The course can be studied on a full-time or part-time basis (18 months for the part-time HNC). It is aimed at students who are progressing from the National Certificate in Electrical Engineering course, school leavers who have studied at Higher level or equivalent and adults returning to further education who have industrial experience in electrical engineering. We particularly welcome applications from suitably experienced mature candidates.

For those returning to education, life skills and experience in the workplace may allow entry subject to availability.

WHO IS THE COURSE FOR?

This course is designed for students who would like to gain a qualification in Electrical Engineering and gain an insight into the wide range of industrial equipment, which is essential to the Electrical Supply System in the UK. Time is spent in the labs testing and investigating electrical systems, e.g. motors and transformers building and using programmable logic controllers. Completion of the course will allow successful students to follow a career in the private or public sector as technicians in the electrical industry, or undertake study at a higher level.

HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED?

This course is mainly assessed on a continuous basis and does not include an external end-of-course examination. Coursework takes the form of essays, reports, presentations, case studies and practical projects. College staff undertakes most of the assessment of student work.

PROGRESSION ROUTES / CAREER OPPORTUNITIES

Partnerships with several universities allow successful candidates to be considered for direct entry to year 3 of an appropriate degree course. Employment opportunities may include employment as trainees within the electronics industry.
