Computing: Software Development HND

Specialising in the Software Development/ Programming aspects of the computer industry, this course provides those with a natural flair for programming an in depth start to either further study or professional life as a programmer. The beginning of the course is broad-based and gives the student a context for their specialism, as the course progresses students focus more and more on their specialist area.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Typical applicants will be expected to have two Highers. Applicants should show an interest in and aptitude for the subject, or have successfully completed a non-advanced College course showing good achievement.

For those returning to education, life skills and experience in the workplace may allow entry subject to availability.

Please note: Applicants should be aware that a laptop is required for this course.

HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED?

This course is mainly assessed on a continuous basis and does not include an external end-of-course examination. Coursework takes the form of essays, reports, presentations, case studies and practical projects. Most of the assessment of student work is undertaken by College staff.

PROGRESSION ROUTES / CAREER OPPORTUNITIES

Partnerships with several universities allow successful candidates to be considered for direct entry to year 3 of an appropriate degree course. Employment opportunities may include employment as trainee computer programmers.
