Description
This course is designed as a challenging introductory course for those who wish to pursue a career in nursing but have little or no experience of working in a care environment. As a first step on the career path, it is designed to give candidates a firm understanding of the expectations and values demanded of them in the nursing profession. Nationally, the nursing profession is raising its requirements for qualified staff and candidates will be expected during this course to pass at least one SQA Higher at C grade.

WHO IS THE COURSE FOR?
This course will appeal to school leavers and mature individuals alike. Successful completion of the course can lead to entry to the level 6 Nursing course which was previously called Access to Nursing but is now called ‘NC Health and Social Care (Nursing Route)’.
HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED?
Assessment for all the units is ongoing throughout the course. Course work is assessed in a variety of ways including: projects, short answer questions, essays and some closed book assessments. The emphasis is on learner centred learning, where students are encouraged and supported to complete independent research.
Students are encouraged from an early stage to take responsibility for their own learning and the use of the college's Virtual learning Environment is actively encouraged.
A unit overview is given by the lecturer at the start of each unit, covering outcome and particular assessment details.
PROGRESSION ROUTES / CAREER OPPORTUNITIES
On successful completion of this level 5 Nursing course, students may progress to the SCQF level 6 Nursing course NC Health and Social previously called Access to Nursing Care (Nursing Route). Thereafter to the degree route 'B of Nursing' at The Robert Gordon University.
Alternatively, successful candidates may opt to consider other care related courses including the NC Health and Social Care (Social Care Route); NC Early Education and Childcare or NC Working with Communities.
