Description

The course covers a wide range of subjects in both fine art and design disciplines. It introduces students to a broad range of practical skills in both two and three dimensions and develops a critical awareness of the historical, contextual and social issues relevant to art and design practice.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Typical applicants will be expected to have a minimum of two Higher passes - one of which should be Higher Art. Applicants should show an interest in and aptitude for the subject, or have successfully completed the appropriate non-advanced College course, having shown good achievement. Intermediate 2 or National 5 English is also required. For those returning to education, life skills and experience in the workplace may allow entry subject to availability.

WHO IS THE COURSE FOR?

This course is designed to allow students to experiment to an advanced level with Art and Design projects. Self generated projects are given so that students may specialise in one of the art and design areas in which they have been taught, to create a portfolio with regards to their chosen subject.

HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED?

This course is mainly assessed on a continuous basis and does not include an external end-of-course examination. Coursework takes the form of practical project work and visual presentation and written reports. College staff undertake most of the assessment of student work.

PROGRESSION ROUTES / CAREER OPPORTUNITIES

Students successfully completing this course may wish to apply to University for entry into the second or third year of a degree. Successful completion could allow entry to Year 2 or Year 3 at The Robert Gordon University (Grays School of Art) or Dundee University (Duncan of Jordanstone College or Art & Design). Some students may wish to start up their own business or become an independent artist and source venues for regular exhibitions. Students successfully completing HNC or HND Art & Design will celebrate their success with an exhibition at the end of their course.
