Continuing students will have successfully completed all units within the NC Animal Care course including Cell Biology and Anatomy & Physiology at Grade A or B.
WHO IS THE COURSE FOR?
This is a wide ranging course covering the theoretical aspects of animal care and welfare along with the associated practical activities. The course is intended for candidates who are wishing to find employment in animal care industries or to progress to further study.
HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED?
This course is mainly assessed on a continuous basis, however, the courses includes an external end of course examination. Each unit is assessed separately. For certain units, essays, presentations, and case studies will also be required. The Graded Unit is an end of course assessement and the marking is completed in College, but will be sent to SQA for final moderation. Candidates who pass a Graded Unit will be awarded an A, B or C grade for that unit. Most of the assessment of student work is undertaken by College staff.
PROGRESSION ROUTES / CAREER OPPORTUNITIES
Students successfully completing this course may progress to the HND Animal Care course and subsequently to advanced level entry for a number of associated animal related degree programmes. The animal care industry is a broad field employing a wide range of people in sectors as diverse as welfare, husbandry, grooming, retail, veterinary work, laboratory work, education, zoological and safari parks, voluntary organisations and small enterprises (e.g. kennels or trainers).
