The Advanced ECDL is a Level 3 qaulification (QCF). This is roughly equivalent to Level 6 in Scotland (SCQF). It is accredited by the British Computer Society (BCS).

Advanced ECDL Word Processing (Module AM3) is a high-level certification programme through which candidates can demonstrate their ability to use the advanced features of word processing applications to enhance their work, improve productivity and save time. Completion of this module will enable candidates to demonstrate professionalism and save time in the creation, production, review, and distribution of documents.
The main areas covered in the Advanced ECDL Word Processing syllabus are:
- Editing: This section gives you the skills to use advanced text editing features, paragraph and style options or template formatting and layout options. This section also covers collaborative editing features which allow you to work as a team on large, complex word processing projects.
- Layout: Create and modify master documents and sub-documents, table of contents, document sections, multiple column layouts and column breaks.
- Document Organisation: Create and modify bookmarks, indexes, cross-references, field codes, footnotes and endnotes. Add and modify password protection to a document. Use advanced table features to merge and split cells in a table, convert tabbed text into a table, sort data and perform calculations in a table. Use advanced form features to create, edit and protect forms. Use advanced spreadsheet features to modify an embedded worksheet within a document. Create and modify a chart from a table or pasted worksheet within a document and position a chart within a document.
- Use advanced captions features to add captions to images, figures or tables and apply numbered captions to an image, figures or tables
- Special Tools: Use advanced mail merge features to edit and sort a data source and/or merge documents with a data source using merge criteria. Use macro features to record, run and copy macros and assign a macro to a button on the toolbar.

This course is delivered through an appointed Distance Learning Tutor. Your appointed tutor will make contact with you as soon as you have the materials for the course. They will make regular contact to offer support and guidance, usually by e-mail but sometimes by phone to ensure you are making good progress and to support your learning throughout. You must be able to study independently through the course materials.
HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED?
An assessment will be carried out in the college assessment centre, when you have completed the course work. The cost of the Advanced Test is £60 payable at the time of booking the assessment. Payment can be made in cash at the Assessment Centre Reception in LG10, by cheque made payable to North East Scotland College or by Credit or Debit Card by telephoning the Assessment Centre on 01224 612237.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
Prospective students should ideally have the ECDL certification and/or previous experience using computers and common software applications. It is essential that you have previous experience in using a computer, the Windows interface and Windows terminology.
