Level 3 Carpentry & Joinery NVQ
This course is 2 separate courses and students will study either Site Carpentry OR Bench Joinery.
All students cover the following modules:
- Key skills, health and safety and PUWER (The Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations)
- Management duties
- Information required for production planning
- Methods of identifying, obtaining, organising and planning resources
- Liaising with suppliers, requesting & calling of materials & components
- Recording stock and deliveries, dealing with variations
- Programme planning and how to address hazards
- Storage use and handling materials and equipment

- Contractual arrangements - Delivery requirements and constraints on supply systems
- Monitoring plant utilisation and suitability
- Maintenance and repair process, controlling deliveries against the programme - Planning, flow charts etc
BENCH JOINERY
Additional modules include:-
- Mark out rods for: Door frames, doors, stairs, wall & floor units, window frames,- Curved on plan or elevation
- Produce cutting lists, sheets lists, picking lists
- Set out and produce - Door frames, doors, staircases with newels, wall & floor units, window - Bay, bow, sliding sash
- Geometry - Circles, ellipses, segmental curves, scaling, dealing with specifications, schedules. Building - Regulations and critical dimensions
- Develop mouldings - Roman and Grecian, veneering processes, adhesives, sealants, fixings, fire resistant doors and frames
- Oils and lubricants, hazard identification, reporting process for emergency situations
- Woodworking machines - circular saw and use of jigs, templates and fixtures, maintenance and repairs
- Working with, hardwoods, softwoods, and sheet materials
- Machine calculations
OR
SITE CARPENTRY
Additional modules include:-
- Fitting swing, sliding, up & over doors and fire doors
- Modern and traditional complex roof construction to include hips, valleys etc
All students must be employed in the industry and have ONE from the following:
- 5 GCSEs at grades A*-C, including English, Maths and Science
- Level 2 Carpentry & Joinery CAA Diploma, plus GCSE English or Maths at grades A*-C
- Level 2 Carpentry & Joinery NVQ, plus GCSE English or Maths at grades A*-C
- Equivalent qualifications
Adults 19+ who have industry experience but do not have the necessary qualifications are welcome to apply.
