Coaching and Personal Development

There are many definitions of, and approaches to, coaching. As a coaching psychologist  I offer an eclectic approach, based on sound psychological principles but also including models and techniques from NLP and other schools I have trained with as well as using psychometrics and other diagnostic tools to accelerate development. My associates also offer a range of styles including career coaching and NLP coaching.

My associates and I provide both Personal and Business coaching, the latter typically around leadership and performance. NB Personal coaching is often referred to as Life Coaching. (Click here if you want to see a PowerPoint presentation or here if you want a flyer)

What is it? According to Timothy Gallwey, author of The Inner Game series, it's "unlocking a person's potential to maximise their performance. It's helping them to learn rather than teaching them". Sir John Whitmore sums it up simply as: "Unlocking a person's potential to maximise their own performance", and Miles Downey describes it as; "The art of facilitating the performance, learning and development of another".

Why? It helps to develop leadership skills, team-work, interpersonal skills, improves communications and stress management, and supports people in transition.

When? During organisational change, when performance is falling off, during outplacement, in the first 100 days, where there is interpersonal conflict.

Who? Executives from board level down, managers, supervisors, and professionals.

How? Face to face, in groups, or by telephone with e-mail support.

Where? At the place of work or at a third party location. Confidentiality is paramount.

I offer a free initial consultation followed by half-day face-to-face sessions (individual or group) and/or 40 minute telephone sessions and e-mail support depending on the programme agreed with the client.

Being a founding member of the BPS's Special Group in Coaching Psychology, of the International Association of Coaching, and of the Association for Coaching, and a founder member of Coachville, reflects my long interest and experience in this field.
