Course Description

The Distance Learning Supporting Teaching & Learning in Schools QCF course aims to enable learners to understand the roles and responsibilities of those involved in supporting teaching and learning in schools, providing an opportunity to develop the skills and knowledge required to do this effectively and in a self-directed way. It prepares students to support the Teacher delivering the curriculum within a school, as well as developing skills to help children and young people to develop self-esteem, independence and skills for learning. It seeks to further develop professional and technical skills and knowledge, and gain an understanding of the importance of positive relationships within a school.

The course learning outcomes are as follows:

  • Understand Child and Young Person Development
  • Understand How to Safeguard the Wellbeing of Children and Young People
  • Support Children and Young People's Health and Safety
  • Engage in personal development in young people’s settings
  • Support learning activities
  • Promote children and young people’s positive behaviour
  • Develop professional relationships with children, young people and adults
  • Promote equality, diversity and inclusion in work with children and young people
  • Support assessment for learning
  • Communication and professional relationships with children, young people and adults

This is a competence based qualification suitable for all roles in schools, including site staff, administrators etc as well as those who work directly with children and young people. It seeks to develop the knowledge and understanding that all those working in a school setting will need and covers areas such as safeguarding, communication and understanding the school context. 

You can start your studies at any time and plan them over a period of up to one year from the time of enrolment. In addition, students of this qualification will need to arrange and undertake a work placement of a minimum of 50 hours during their course.

The course leads to the full qualification which is 32 credits. Course code: 501/0403/2. To be awarded the NCFE Level 3 Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools learners must achieve all of the mandatory units totalling 32 credits.

Please Note: a work placement of at least 50 hours is required to complete this option.

Previous Knowledge Required

You do not need any prior learning knowledge or experience to take this course. This course is openly available to anyone who wishes to take part in a highly rewarding home study course, although you would be expected to have a reasonable standard of literacy.

You have the freedom to start the course at any time and continue your studies at your own pace for a period of up to 12 months from initial registration with the full support of your Tutor.

You will receive the entire package of course materials in a single dispatch together with dedicated Tutor Support for 12 months.  All assignments are marked by one of our professional Tutors who will offer regular feedback and guide you through your course.

Assessment

Students are required to compile a portfolio of evidence which demonstrates their learning against each of the assessment criteria of the course. Portfolios are assessed by a tutor. Some portfolio evidence will need to be witnessed by a competent person in the workplace hence students must be employed in school or arrange and complete a work experience placement.
