Course Description

The Distance Learning Foetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders course has been drawn up in conjunction with experts - FASawareUK.

The course covers the clinical issues surrounding alcohol use during pregnancy, together with the clinical symptoms and developmental outcomes. It then looks at the neuropathology of Foetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders (FASD), including psychopathy and cognitive functioning. Finally, it will examine interventions, including prevention and rehabilitation approaches.

The course aims to:

•    Provide a nationally accredited certificated programme covering a wide range of issues associated with alcohol use during pregnancy and the variety of clinical symptoms and developmental outcomes and possible interventions
•    Provide a flexible learning opportunity that is accessible to a wide range of learners
•    Provide the student with knowledge and understanding that can be applied by those who either personally, voluntary or professionally have a special interest in this field.

The Teaching Assistant Diploma has been created to help those working, or hoping to work, in the role of ‘teaching assistant’, to gain and develop a level of understanding and skills that will help them to do this effectively.

The Teaching Assistant course consists of a number of modules, each of which relate to a particular aspect that is important and relevant to the teaching assistant role. The modules are organised into two groups:

Mandatory modules

•    Provide support for learning activities
•    Support children’s development
•    Help to keep children safe
•    Contribute to positive relationships
•    Provide effective support for your colleagues

Optional modules

•    Use information and communication technology to support pupils’ learning
•    Support a child with disabilities or special educational needs
•    Support children and young people’s play
•    Provide displays

You must therefore complete seven modules in total to achieve the Teaching Assistant course Diploma.
