Course Description

The Social and Political History Diploma covers historical events from the Industrial Revolution to the Labour Party Victory in the 1990s. This is the voyage of gender and class struggles, the Victorians and their attitudes to society and crime. Social life, the economy, the way we worked, lived and socialised have all changed dramatically. Learn how we used to treat those most vulnerable in society or how political pioneers were to bring about radical changes and reform.

The Social and Political History Diploma explores British society up to the present day, providing a historical context to some of the most important issues being debated today, such as - do we need an overhaul of the political system? Can the NHS cope with demand? Should people have to pay for an education? And does putting criminals in prison actually work? Knowledge of key events of the past helps us to achieve a better understanding of the present and how best to approach the future.

Probably at no time in history has access to, and proficiency with, media and information technologies been more important in the public mind, nor more critical to policy making and teaching in government, schools and universities.

The Media Studies Diploma course covers the meaning of “media studies” in its broadest context and will appeal to anyone who may wish to gain a foothold in this exciting and innovative vocational area.
