ITEC qualifications are internationally-recognised and are aimed at beginners wishing to train as professional Complementary Therapists, or existing Therapists wishing to extend their practice skills or formalise their existing knowledge through accreditation.  Each ITEC course may be studied separately, or as part ofa course of study over time, gaining both underpinning and post-graduate skills and taking beginners to practitioner level in one year.  Both male and female learners are welcome in our classes and all learners are expected to actively participate in any practical massage sessions.

A gentle, relaxing and de-stressing therapy, stimulating the reflex points on the feet, releasing tension, improving circulation and helping the body to remove toxins more efficiently, bringing it back into balance.

Should you need to gain the Anatomy, Physiology & Pathology unit, please enrol on NKH001 on Tuesday evenings or NKH018b on Thursday morning.

Learner & Entry Requirements: 

Informal 1-2-1 and telephone interviews are offered to prospective learners to discuss the course. 5 GCSE passes at A-C or equivalent is preferred, however exemptions are made for adult learners with experience in the work place and/or who have good command of written and spoken English and are able to demonstrate literacy skills at level 2, through completion of a national literacy test and interview.  Learners must be self starters, able to plan use of their time and attend regularly.   You must be in good health and mobile enough to perform physical activity.

General & First Session:

The text book - 'Introductory Guide to Reflexology' Revised Edition containing CD, by Louise Tucker (Pub: Holistic Therapy Books) should be purchased after confirmation that the course is running.

Pens, paper, folder. Two Towels. Do not purchase items specifically for the course until after the first class.  KAE is unable to offer refunds for any materials, equipment or books if the course is subsequently closed.

To avoid disruption to the class and as a courtesy to fellow learners, participants are requested to arrive in time for all sessions and inform the tutor in advance if possible, if they cannot attend a session.

You are encouraged to take out an insurance policy with ITEC in order to practice and carry out case studies.  Case studies undertaken outside of class and extensive home study will be required for all ITEC Level 3 courses.

Course Aim & Objective:

Carry out a full Reflexology treatment with confidence, professionally in a healthy safe environment. 
By the end of the course you should know how to carry out a client consultation, keep client records
and confidentiality, be aware of all contra-indications, client care and aftercare advice. 

To provide skills at Level 3 in the Qualifications and Credit Framework for those interested in the Complementary Therapy industry. Prepare you for the ITEC professional examinations in Reflexology and qualify learners as Complementary Therapists at Level 3 in the Complementary industry.

To provide opportunities for Learners to focus on the development of the major Key skills and the wider Key skills in a Therapy context such as communicating with clients, working with others and problem solving.

To provide opportunities for Learners to develop a range of skills and techniques, personal qualities and attitudes essential for successful performance in employment as a Complementary Therapist.  To gain the confidence and skills to work alongside their peers.

To prepare and enable learners to practice Reflexology on a self-employed basis, working from a clinc or home.  Gain employment as a Reflexologist in a clinic, health club, spa or liner; or work as a volunteer providing massage to patients in residential care, hospice, hospitals etc

To introduce you to the foot body map, in order that you can locate all body systems on the feet.  To enable you to assist the client's body to clear blockages, help with pain-relief, eliminate toxins, improve energy levels, help with a number of disorders and bring the body back into balance.  Hand Reflexology will also be covered as will external signs and disorders.

Assessment: 

Question and Answer sessions, practical observation, home-work, class tests and Mock Exams.  Case studies to be completed by learners in preparation for final exam.

The qualification is internally and externally assessed.  All units are mandatory in order to achieve the full Diploma.

Learning assessed through written assignments, short written tests, class presentations, and observation of practical techniques.  Reflective Case studies must be undertaken outside of class + 60 treatments over the duration of the course. Extensive home study will be required for all ITEC Level 3 courses.

ITEC (International Therapy Examination Council):  Three externally set theory assignments and a practical examination where case studies and reflective practice portfolios are handed to the practical examiner for double marking.

The tutor also devotes at least four sessions to introducing the following two units (9253/9256).  Should anyone need these units, then further self-study will be required outside of the course.  The tutor will provide you with the ITEC assignment and mark it for you provided you present it to her according to the stated deadline.
