Learn to paint and draw for beginners

Entry requirement:

No entry requirements needed but a keen interest in art.

What you will need for your first session:

A suitable room, students will be given a material list and health and safety leaflets will be handed out.

Overall course aims and objectives:

The course is designed to cover both basic and more advanced techniques in a variety of subjects to give you a through grounding in the skills and methods of drawing and painting. Develop versatility in using appropriate drawing and painting materials in order to gain confidence and work independently. Tutor support will be given.

Assessment – (homework, on line tests, and/or exams):

Students will be encouraged to draw and paint at home in order to keep up with building their confidence. They will also be encouraged to look at the work of other artists and go to art exhibitions.

Progression and qualifications available from this course:

If the course goes well, students may be encouraged to come back and learn further skills in painting and drawing.

On this course you will develop the following skills:

• Drawing using linear techniques.
• Drawing using variations of tone.
• Develop using observational skills.
• Learn about colour theory.
• Painting depicting appropriate colour usage.
• How to depict areas of light and dark.
• Learn about creating depth such as warm and cool colours.
