Learner & Entry Requirements: 

No experience required - though any casual guitar-playing helps.  Learners need to be prepared to purchase a little music and possibly a text book.

General & First Session: 

If you already have the following items please bring them, but do not purchase them specifically for the course until after the first class.

Guitar - classical nylon-stringed, pitch pipe (optional), paper, pen, footstool (optional).

KAE is unable to offer refunds for any materials, equipment or books if the course is subsequently closed.

Course Aim & Objective: 

Find basic notes on the guitar and play them using two different techniques.  You should be able to read basic music and transpose this onto the guitar.

By the end of the course you should be able to play simple notes and read and understand music, enabling you to read a short basic piece and play it on the guitar.

Assessment: 

Weekly assessment in class.  During the last three weeks you are given a small piece of music to practise at home before returning to play it the following week.

Course Syllabus:

Cover basic notes of music; basic theory and rudiments of music, set out in simple pieces of music and finally play from a short piece of classical music using methods learned.

On this course you will gain the following skills and knowledge;-

  • Different ways of tuning a guitar
  • Finger techniques and positions
  • Use 2 main 'picking' methods with your right hand and left hand technique.
  • Learn to play basic scales
