Overall course aims and objectives

To develop students' ability to  listen to, speak, read and write about topics beyond 'survival situations'. That ability will be assessed in 2 end of year exams – an oral conversation about a chosen topic from a list of Edexcel prescribed topic and a listening/reading/writing exam.

To develop students' ability to  listen to, speak, read and write about topics beyond 'survival situations'. That ability will be assessed in 2 end of year exams – an oral conversation about a chosen topic from a list of Edexcel prescribed topic and a listening/reading/writing exam.

On this course you will develop the following skills:

To read and listen to longer texts.

To widen the range of vocabulary by recognizing synonyms and alternative ways of expressing an idea.

To present, describe, compare, analyse and discuss information and ideas in various topic areas such as life style, health and fitness, environment, tourism, education etc.

To develop a deeper knowledge of the language structure

Assessment – (homework, on line tests, and/or exams)

Regular homework will be given – reading/writing and short presentations -  and later in the year students will be advised to access past papers (online, printable, to be marked by the teacher) to prepare for the exams. There will be a final exam consisting of 2 units: a prepared topic for conversation, a listening/reading and writing exam.

Progression and qualifications available from this course

The successful completion of the AS exams is necessary for the continuation to A-level. However, students who are not ready to take the AS exams in this year, will be able to complete them in the following year, which is year1 of the 2year A2 level course.  (i.e. you will achieve the complete A-level qualification in 3 years)
