Do you want to learn how to use a Spreadsheet?  Discover how to input information and perform simple calculations.  Make changes to your data and see the results.  Learn quick ways of adding numbers together using AutoSum.  Improve the presentation of your Spreadsheet by applying simple formatting.  This Entry level class is suitable for beginners.

Learner & Entry Requirement: 

No prior knowledge of computers is assumed or needed.  Some knowledge of other Windows products, such as Word, would be an advantage.

Course Aim & Objective: 

Introduce the concept of using Excel Spreadsheets.  Explain some elements of the screen and using Menus and dialogue boxes.  Produce simple Spreadsheets with basic calculations (formulae).  Edit details.  Apply simple character formatting, e.g. emboldening.  Change basic Spreadsheet layout, e.g. page orientation. 

By the end of the course you should:

  • Have an understanding of the layout of the Excel screen;
  • Use menus and dialogue boxes;
  • Create new worksheets;
  • Undertake simple calculations, including using Autosum;
  • Understand methods of saving;
  • Close and retrieve documents;
  • Make simple editing changes to calculations;
  • Print out worksheets using the icon;
  • Apply and remove simple character formatting;
  • Change the appearance of a worksheet.

Assessment: 

A number of guided exercises, to be completed during the class, intended to illustrate the topics covered.  Consolidation exercises to assess understanding.  Discussion, questioning and feedback, personal and group, are used to assess the level of learning.

Progression: 

EXCEL Intermediate.  Please ask at the centre office for further details.
