Taught at a gentle pace it is suitable for all learners, but may appeal to the older learner. It is a good progression course from Entry level.

Learner & Entry Requirements:
Intended for the older learner, for those who have attended 'Computers At a Gentle Pace (Beginners) or for those who have some experience in using computers.

General & First Session:
Please bring a pen, some paper and folder to contain work/exercises/ handouts etc. KAE is unable to offer refunds for any materials, equipment or books if the course is subsequently closed.

Course Aim & Objective:
Add to, and reinforce, skills learned previously; enhance general computer, Word Processing, Internet and E-Mail skills.

By the end of the course you should have: more confidence in using a computer, loading and closing programs; enhanced your Word Processing skills, improved your use of the Internet; developed E-Mail awareness; and consolidated your capability to combine use of Word Processing, the Internet and E-Mail.

Assessment:
A number of guided exercises to be completed during the course to illustrate the topics covered.

Optional exercises provided for those wishing to continue at home.

Consolidation exercises provided to assess understanding.

Discussion, personal and group Question & Answer sessions to assess the level of learning and feedback.

Progression:
Continue on to doing a more advanced course relating to interest in individual topics.

Course Syllabus:

  • Introduction: Establishing computer skills and level of knowledge. Revise opening and closing, moving and sizing Windows programs. Use 'Paint' to be able to draw and edit simple pictures to revise mouse skills.
  • A Return Word Processing: Revision of basic Word Processing. Revision of highlighting (selecting text). Use the Spell Check facilities.
  • More about Word Processing: Copy, Cut and Paste. Document presentation: page margins, breaks and layout.
  • Using Word Processing: Using pictures and graphics in documents to make them look more interesting.
  • A Return to the Internet: More about search engines; adding to and managing Favourites; using 'History' and other icons on the Toolbar.
  • More about using E-Mail: Adding to and using the Address Book; E-mail management; creating and using folders, deleting and moving messages.
