What is the Course About?

The International Association of Book-Keepers (IAB) is a leading UK and international professional body awarding recognised qualifications in bookkeeping, payroll and business.

The IAB Bookkeeping qualifications are specifically designed to appeal to those who are aspiring to become, or who are already, professional bookkeepers or accounts administrators.

The qualifications in manual book-keeping are gained in three levels, each building on the knowledge and skills learnt in the previous level:

Level 1 - Award in Manual Book-keeping
Level 2 - Award in Manual Book-keeping
Level 3 - Certificate in Manual Book-keeping

The qualifications are competence based and teach the practical skills of the book-keeper in maintinaing accounting records and preparing financial statements. Certification is obtained at the end of each level which can be taken independently.

The registration fee, assessment and examination fees, for the first attempt of your examination, is included within the course fees. This will provide you with full IAB student membership for 12 months.

What Subjects will I study?

Level 1 - An introduction to the skills and underpinning knowledge of financial record keeping, developing the necessary skills to record financial transactions in a single entry, manual bookkeeping system. It will provide you with the competence and understanding to carry out a range of basic day-to-day bookkeeping routines and activities relating to maintaining petty cash records, processing and recording of receipts and payments in a two-column cash book, reconciliation of bank statements and banking procedures, the preparation and processing of sales invoices and credit notes issued to customers and purchase invoices and credit notes received from suppliers.

Level 2 - Building upon your earlier studies, this course will introduce you to the underpinning knowledge of financial record keeping and account preparation within the scope of double-entry bookkeeping, and provide you with the necessary skills to record financial transactions in a double-entry bookkeeping system. The activities will include entry of business transactions into the double-entry ledger system, preparing and maintaining a three-column cash book, develop your knowledge and skills in dealing with VAT and maintaining financial records to trial balance level.

Level 3 - This course will assess the learner's competence and understanding in carrying out a range of day-to-day accounting and advanced bookkeeping routines and activities using a manual bookkeeping system. The knowledge and skills developed will enable you to complete routine bookkeeping and accounting tasks, including the production of complex financial statements for a Sole Trader or Partnership from both complete and incomplete records, prepare the financial statements of Not-for-Profit organisations and complete VAT returns.
