need to pay attention to grammar, or is meaning sufficient? What is
the significance of the social contexts where learners engage with
language? Questions like these form the basis of the module, with
contemporary language learning theories considered in reference to
options available in methodology, curriculum and syllabus design.
Specifically, we explore theories based on research into
interaction and the negotiation of meaning, cognitive psychology,
socio-cultural ideas about learning and how sociolinguistics
affects language learner attitudes.
