Masters Level Module

This module is one of three which we run in partnership with the British Film Institute and it provides a theoretical and practical introduction to the field of digital video editing, within the context of media and film education. The module is structured in such a way that there are periods of distance education, combined with residential sessions of presentation, discussion and editing. Whilst this module complements courses with more theoretical content, is not a professional training course based on industry requirements. It is, however, suitable for teachers, lecturers, youth-workers and other professionals, as well as media students, who would like to engage with making and sharing media. It encourages participants to develop practical skills alongside theoretical discussion of how meaning is made with the moving image using digital video production tools and techniques. Residential days at the BFI Southbank take place at the beginning and end of terms and are bridged by online activities during the term. James Durran, digital arts practitioner and advanced skills teacher at Parkside Federation, is co-tutor for the course and has taught and presented extensively on the topics of digital video, animation and media education.
