This course is designed for anyone wishing to pursue a career in the television and film industry. You will develop a range of skills and techniques, personal qualities and attitudes essential for success in higher education and employment.

You will gain an excellent insight into the industry and work in our purpose built TV studio, with industry standard cameras, auto cue, virtual studio software and a specialist editing suite. The course involves a 'hands-on' practical approach in learning camera skills, directing, interview techniques and script writing, through 'live' projects, leading to a wide variety of film making. The range of projects that students may be involved in include fictional drama, comedy, science fiction films, corporate videos, documentaries, music videos and news programmes. You will also learn to analyse moving images, understand how they were produced and learn about how the advertising, television and film industries work. Students will also follow other subject related qualifications with this course.

Past students have been successful in having work selected for the Bradford Film Festival, competing nationally. You will be a part of our exciting production company (Springboard TV) and your work will be broadcast on the Internet TV channel springboardtv.com. The course provides the experience of a real working environment with production schedules, deadlines to meet and the opportunity to work with industry professionals. At the end of the year your work may be selected and shown to a wide audience, at the College of West Anglia Film Festival and 'Oscars' evening.

End Qualification:

BTEC Extended Diploma in Creative Media Production - Television and Film (equivalent to 3 A levels).

You will work towards the subsidiary diploma qualification in the first year of the course and will achieve the extended diploma in the second year.

Entry Requirements:

Interview required

5 GCSE's grade C or above, with a minimum grade C or above in English and a creative subject. Vocational qualifications in relevant subjects will be accepted as GCSE equivalent. Alternatively, successful completion of a BTEC level 2 diploma at merit grade is also acceptable. You will be required to successfully pass an interview with a demonstration of enthusiasm and commitment towards the subject area and bring evidence of written work. Individual cases will be considered on their own merits.

Assessment:

The work on the course is project/assignment based and assessment is continuous throughout the course. Some units will be subject to external assessment. Each unit will be assessed and awarded with a final grade of pass, merit or distinction.

Progression from this course:

The extended diploma is equivalent to three A levels. When you successfully complete this course you could go on to a Foundation degree, further training in industry, or a BA Degree course. You may also go directly to employment in related aspects of the industry, including a junior role in television or film, production assistant or set up your own commercial wedding and corporate video company.

Course Costs:

All students on full-time courses will need to pay a materials / resources fee. Details will be provided before enrolment. If you are under 19 on 31st August in the year you begin your programme, you will not have to pay tuition or registration fees for your course. For students aged 19 or over, there will be a tuition fee (depends on the course) for each year of the course as well as a registration fee (which includes exam fees). However, many students will be eligible for reduced fees and / or financial support towards the costs. Click here for detailed information. Students will be required to purchase a recommended starter art kit costing approximately £50. You will be expected to fund visits throughout the course. On location filming is required as part of the course and an annual fee of £10 is charged at the beginning of the course, which usually covers these costs. An optional residential study trip is also planned. Students will be asked to purchase additional necessary items such as DV tapes, mini-discs, audio tapes and standard stationery.

Additional Information:
