Full Description

Aboard the eighty-eight foot schooner, S/Y Ocean Star, a select assembly of business leaders will experience ten days of superior leadership instruction, personal development training, and unparalleled commercial opportunities for innovative planning and interdependent networking.

The program affords business leaders with the time, environment and tools to effectively appraise and develop both themselves as well as their organisations.

The unique setting of the Caribbean islands provides the preeminent environment to truly expand crew's professional comfort zones, whilst developing their personal resume of expertise and qualifications in nautical recreation.

Throughout the voyage crew will work together with Seabbatical staff, and each other, to develop their capabilities to work as leaders of themselves, their organisations and within their communities. Development modules include:

  • innovative planning
  • transformational leadership
  • interdependency and teamwork
  • collaborative goal setting
  • motivating and managing people
  • leading cultures of change
  • effective performance management
  • corporate social responsibility planning
  • corporate community development
  • self-awareness and personal effectiveness
  • seamanship and small boat handling
  • navigation and yacht systems
  • sail training
  • snorkeling
  • SCUBA diving
  • island trekking

Whilst the Seabbatical voyage has been designed to stretch the capabilities of the crew through continuous action-centered learning, substantial time for personal discovery and relaxation is also scheduled into the program.

The ten-day Seabbatical voyage begins in Antigua, before setting sail to the islands of Nevis and St Kitts, and culminating on the island of Tortolla in the British Virgin Islands (BVIs).

From the moment crew and staff step aboard Ocean Star, they become one team, working together to ensure the effective operation of the vessel*. Ultimately, it is the individual's ability to work cohesively with their fellow crew that will ensure the success of the voyage.

Each day, crew duties are rotated, providing everyone the opportunity to experience the dynamics involved with managing new team responsibilities, whether skippering, navigating, course plotting, or even cooking!

Our daily activity schedules will be extensive, challenging and distinctively unique from the day before, but will continually maintain a direct focus on true experiential learning.

The number of crew berths available for each Seabbatical voyage is strictly limited to 10, with a compliment of 5 staff, ensuring a maximum crew to staff ratio of 2:1. Applications for the program are reviewed on a first come, first served basis until all berths are filled.

Investment for the program includes all direct voyage costs, group excursions, food, live aboard expenses, all equipment and tuition. Travel costs to and from Antigua and Tortola respectively are not included, though can be arranged through our dedicated travel consultants, as can extended accommodation opportunities before and after the program.

Prior to departure, a member of the Seabbatical staff will arrange a formal pre-program meeting with each of the crew to ensure individual requirements for the program will be met. We also ask that each of the crew review and sign the Seabbatical contractual Code of Conduct, along with the standard enrolment documentation to ensure the program maintains its high standards of quality and safety.

To reserve a berth, a non-refundable deposit of 50% of the program fee is required, with the remaining balance due 60 days prior to the program starting date.
