Summary
This qualification is designed to stimulate interest and encourage understanding of the skills and knowledge needed to care for young children. It will help you develop life skills and provide an introduction if you are thinking of working in childcare.
There may be an opportunity to gain work experience in a child care related setting.
You will attend College three days each week 9.00am-5.00pm and have work to complete in your own time. You may spend one day each week and possibly some block weeks, in placement after Easter.

- A successful HRC Disclosure and Barring Service check. You must demonstrate suitability to work with children, show empathy and a keen interest in working with and helping others, along with good communication and interpersonal skills.
Applications are welcome from male and female students.
What will I be doing on the course?
You will study a range of child care related units and you will have the opportunity for personal development and career guidance.
How will I be assessed?
A range of Units for Childcare and Personal and Social Development (PSD) will be marked and assesssed by the Unit Tutors throughout the course. All units will be internally assessed using a range of methods which could include; written assignments or tasks such as designing a leaflet or booklet, charts or diagrams or setting up an information board.

What can I do next?
Although the qualification does not qualify you to work with children it does support you in preparing for the next steps, perhaps in training or moving towards the world of work:
- If successful you will gain a Level 1 qualification which may allow you to progress on to a course which will give you a qualification enabling you to apply to work in child care.
- Courses you may apply for are: Level 2 Award / Certificate /
Diploma in Child Care and Education, Level 2 Children and Young
Peoples Workforce Certificate, BTEC First Diploma in Health and
Social Care.
Additional Activities
You will have the chance to study Functional Skills and Level 1
or Level 2 in English and Maths. You can take part in additional
activities such as charity fund raising, trips and visits. You may
also undertake First Aid, Basic Food Hygiene and Health &
Safety training.
