Photography is at the forefront of creative industries worldwide. This course will allow you to gain skills in digital photography and in the use of design software. It will enable you to develop a body of work and build a portfolio to showcase your creativity and achievement.

Entry Requirements

  • 200 GCSE entry points including English at Grade C or have Level 2 Diploma at Merit level and functional skills English at L2
  • You will have to provide examples of art and design or photography work at interview
  • We also welcome applications from students with other relevant experience or qualifications

What will I be doing on the course?

  • Practical digital photography assignments
  • Skills in using editing and effects software
  • Contextual and historical assignments on the development of photography
  • Sketchbook development

How will I be assessed?

You will be assessed through working on practical assignments, producing a wide range of products and photographic solutions. Using industry standard equipment including, Apple Mac's, the Adobe Creative Suite and DSLR cameras. An exploration of the art and science of photography will include experiments with light, lenses, film and digital manipulation. Functional skills are assessed through online tests.

What will I need?

Students will be trained to operate a digital SLR camera. You will need to provide a basic art kit and sketchbooks. You will also be advised about purchasing your own camera. There is a £10 charge as a contribution towards trips.

What can I do next?

  • Once you have successfully completed this course, you will have gained a nationally recognised qualification, developed your personal skills and completed a portfolio of work.
  • It enables you to progress to Higher Education, taking a degree in photography or media specialism
  • Alternatively you may choose to enter employment in the creative sector

Additional Activities

You will take part in our enrichment programme, taking trips to galleries, museums and exhibitions in London. You will develop your skills in English, Numeracy and ICT through taking Functional Skills as appropriate.
