Greenwich Community College is the leading provider of ESOL in the borough and offers a range of full and part time classes for young people and adults. These classes can lead to nationally recognised qualifications, which demonstrate a practical understanding of English.
Most ESOL Courses are for 1 year.

Part-time ESOL courses for Adults:
- ESOL Skills for Life – these are part time classes for adults from Beginners to Level 2 at the Plumstead Centre
- IELTS
Full-time Vocational ESOL courses for Adults:
- ESOL with Childcare at Level 1
- Health and Social Care with ESOL – Level 1
- AAT Accouting with ESOL – Level 1
- Electrical Installation with ESOL – Level 1
Part-time Additional Courses for ESOL Learners:
- Adult Numeracy – Entry Level 1 to Level 1
- I.T. Functional Skills – Entry Level 1 to Level 1
- Award in Sustainability Skills – Entry Level 3
- Introduction to Customer Services – Entry Level 3
All entry level ESOL courses include Citizenship content for those wishing to apply for Indefinite Leave to Remain or British Citizenship.
When do these courses start?
There are opportunities to start these courses in September, and some part time classes start in March.
We also run a GEMS programme for 16 to 18 year olds.

What do I need to get on this course?
Once you have submitted our online application
form, you will be sent a letter, inviting you in for an assessment.
This is so that we can find the suitable level course for you.
How will I be assessed?
Your level of English will be assessed. You will be interviewed by an experienced tutor and placed on a course.
Once on the course, you will be able to take examinations in Speaking and Listening, Reading and Writing with Cambridge ESOL Skills for Life or English Speaking Board.
Where does it lead?
Depending on the level of course you are studying, you will either progress onto a higher level ESOL course including IELTS, or other vocational courses in the college.
Previous ESOL students have gone onto take degrees in Accounting, Nursing and Science.
Previous ESOL students are now working within the following sectors: Public Sector, Finance/Accounting, Retail and Care.
