This course is designed as a training programme and is suitable for those preparing for work in the construction industry as a carpenter or joiner.

Course Content

The course involves both practical training and theoretical activities and covers the following core units:

• Basic wood working joints
• Building methods & construction technology
• Information, quantities & communication
• Maintain & use hand tools
• Prepare & use portable power tools
• Safe working practices The programme also includes: Enrichment and Functional Skills

Assessment Method

Synoptic practical tasks, a series of knowledge questions for each unit and a multi - choice online end test.

Progression

Successful completion of this programme will allow you to progress onto the Level 2 Diploma in Site Carpentry, or to seek a Carpentry or Joinery Apprenticeship.

Additional Information

Tools and materials are supplied by the College. Safety footwear is required for all workshop sessions. Study materials are required for all theory sessions. Department polo shirts are to be worn at all times.
