This course aims to start to prepare you for a career in ICT and it will help you to develop the necessary skills, flexibility, knowledge and motivation to progress to further studies.

Course Content

This course aims to prepare you for a career in ICT and will provide you with the necessary skills, flexibility, knowledge and motivation to progress onto further studies. You find out about the tools and techniques used for working with information and will develop confidence in using ICT. In addition, you are given the opportunity to analyse information needs in different contexts. Mandatory Units:

• Communicating in the IT industry
• Computer Systems
• Working in the IT industry. Optional Units may include:
• Computer Graphics
• Database Systems
• Home Entertainment Systems
• Multimedia Design
• Software Design
• Spreadsheet Modelling
• Web Development. You may be required to continue to study English or maths as part of your course.

Assessment Method

Coursework.

Progression

On successful completion this qualification can lead directly to work as an IT Practitioner in various fields such as user support, customer services, data entry, hardware testing and installation. Alternatively, you could progress onto the BTEC Diploma/Extended Diploma or other non - computing oriented Diplomas.

Entry Requirements

2 GCSEs (Grade D or above) preferably including maths.
