This course was developed to fulfil a recognised need for more computer specialists who can develop computer software and design or maintain computer systems. Studying Applied Computing, you will develop a number of practical skills which are useful in any field of business, such as how to use information technology effectively as well understanding specialised software.
You will also learn how to research, analyse and present your ideas. As you progress through the course you will gain invaluable skills for your future career, including self-motivation, time management, problem solving, database and project management.

This course is practical in nature and aims to provide you with the basic underpinning theory and knowledge of computer systems and to prepare you for employment as a Computing Practitioner. It will give you opportunities to understand the nature and principles of business processes and to gain direct experience of them.
On the Applied Computing courses you have the opportunity to tailor your own course from modules available within the University’s other computing degrees to meet your personal interests and career aspirations.
Assessment
Assessment is through individual and team coursework together with the demonstration of competence in the delivery of practical work and projects.
