Computers and electronic communications are central to almost
every aspect of modern life - in the workplace, while managing our
home lives and in our leisure activities. The BTEC Higher National
Certificate (HNC) in Computing and Systems Development focuses on
mainstream computing topics and is a specialist vocational
programme with a strong work related emphasis. It provides a
thorough grounding in the key concepts and practical skills
required in the computing sector with national recognition allowing
progression in employment or to a degree.

The HNC is offered as a two-year course of part-time study.
Attendance is required at College on one day each week during the
academic year. In addition you will be expected to spend time
outside the timetabled College sessions for reading, research and
other coursework.
Fees - Some employers support their staff on the HNC and in some
cases they receive support from the Isle of Man Government.
For 2012/13 first and second year classes at College will be
timetabled on Tuesdays from 1p.m. until around 7p.m. First year
classes will run from Tuesday 18th Sept 2012 throughout the
academic year.
What Subjects will I study?
Core modules cover the topics e-commerce, the basic hardware and software underlying computer systems, and skills for personal development. Options modules include subjects like computer networks, database design, systems analysis, website design, research skills, programming, and IT virtualisation (the options may be restricted by constraints on student numbers and resources).
