This A Level can lead to higher education courses, universities or employment What will I be doing on the course? The AQA AS Level Physics (A) has been developed for students who wish to continue with a study of Physics after GCSE. Some students may wish to follow a Physics course for only one year as an AS GCE, in order to broaden their curriculum. Others will continue their course for a further year extending their course to Advance GCE. Such a course will prepare students to progress into higher education, to follow courses in Physics, Engineering, one of the other sciences or related subjects, or to enter employment where a knowledge of physics would be useful. We also study a practical skills topic that develops your practical, analysis and evaluative skills. This builds on the practical activities that we perform in class.
Additional NotesFor full time students the course will form part of a larger programme of study which consists of timetabled sessions, enrichment activities, work experience and private study time. To achieve this a student will normally be asked to select from columns of the 6th Form matrix in each year of study. If a student falls below this programme requirement they may be classed as part time by some external agencies and may be required to pay fees for their tuition and/or exams. Please check with the tutor at interview that the subjects you have selected form a full-time programme. Every full time 6th Form student will have a personal tutor and will study a tutorial programme. The tutor will be responsible for the pastoral care of the student and for the tracking and monitoring of their progress on the course. This subject can be selected on its own for part time study for which tuition fees may be payable (please consult Student Services for fee concessions). Part time students may also be required to pay exam fees. You may have the opportunity to go on trips during the year. A small charge will be payable for these visits.

Case StudiesKyle A Levels: Biology, Physics, Maths and History Kyle is studying towards his A Level qualifications with a strong interest in Maths and Physics. Once he has completed his A Levels he hopes to go to University to study Mechanical Engineering. “Maths and English are the basis of engineering, so this will definitely help me to get into University. They are both challenging subjects but are very interesting and have fun elements to them. They also help me with everyday life skills particularly Maths which is important”.
