About This Course

The hospitality sector employs seven per cent of the working population. Including replacement demand, an additional 660,200 people will need to be recruited by 2020 People 1st State of the Nation 2013. Gloucestershire College is the main provider of hospitality, catering and chef training in the county and has a long, successful track record, with students going on to develop careers with a wide range of establishments. You may initially think about working in a hotel or restaurant (our students have gone on to work and own Michelin starred restaurants) but remember there are also lots of opportunities in company catering, hospitals and care homes, schools, sporting events or anywhere where people need to be fed! You may work in diverse roles such as; food and beverage manager, chef, waiting staff, conference and banqueting manager, crew member and housekeeper. A catering qualification is a great passport to working all over the world in an exciting and dynamic industry. This is a progression route from either the Professional Diploma in Catering Level 1 or the Catering Foundation programme. You will need a L1 qualification to join the courses in this family. Front of House Pathway On this course you will understand the key role that reception play in providing excellent service to customers, this involves: ·· Greeting guests on arrival · Good first impression · Reservations · Office systems and equipment · Bills and payments · In house communications Housekeeping Pathway On this course you will learn about the important aspects of creating a clean and inviting ambience to the rooms and services provided in a successful hospitality business. This involves: · Cleaning and making up rooms · Checking equipment · Collecting linen · and laundry · Setting up meeting/conference rooms · Dealing with customer complaints To have the best possible insight you will have visits to a local hotel as part of your training. The accommodation and front of house aspects of a hotel are critical to the financial success of a business. The aim is to provide your guests with a real home from home and ensure their accommodation, and the other facilities within the hotel meet or exceed their expectations. Career prospects are good with many head housekeepers and reception managers only being in their 20's. You can move from these courses onto the Level 3 Hospitality Supervision courses, either on a full-time or part-time basis.

Entry Criteria

You will have a level 1 qualification in catering plus a selection of grade C or D GCSE's.

Progression Details

On completion of your course you can expect more responsibility at work and to continue your studies at level 3
