Part-time English as a Foreign Language classes are ideal for students who cannot attend a full-time course but need to study English either for their own benefit or to obtain employment in this country. To help you decide on your programme of study, we check your level of English with a computerised test, a written assessment and an interview with one of our lecturers. GENERAL ENGLISH CLASSES - Morning Programme The work you cover will include: * Grammar * Vocabulary Building * Pronunciation * Social English * Listening & Speaking * Reading & Writing There will also be regular homework, progress tests and tutorial support. There is an emphasis on real-life situations and authentic use of English. If you do not wish to study General English, it may be possible to offer you: BUSINESS ENGLISH Business English is offered four mornings a week and covers: * Vocabulary and situations in the business world * Practical business communication * Basic business concepts * The possibility of studying for a business exam (numbers permitting) * Grammar revision * Other language work according to the groups needs Some students complete one term of General English before transferring to the Business English course. AFTERNOON PROGRAMME The afternoon programme is designed to support the General English morning classes. In your afternoon classes you can cover some of the following: * Skills practice * Phrasal verbs * Conversation practice * Academic English * Writing * Pronunciation * Exam preparation for: Cambridge PET, Cambridge FCE, Cambridge CAE, IELTS There will also be regular homework, progress tests and tutorial support. In addition, you will be able to participate in the full-time students' social programme and use the excellent college facilities such as the library. For a small extra charge, you can also participate in college excursions to places of interest in the area.
Additional NotesThere will be a course book fee of about £30 to pay at enrolment. Student fees will be determined based on number of learning hours. Please see International Department for more details.
Entry CriteriaProspective students will require at least an elementary level of English - staff are happy to discuss the needs of individual students. Students must be age 16 or over.
