About This Course

The Diploma in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector is a 2 year part-time programme designed to support the development of teachers in the Learning and Skills Sector within a wide range of settings, especially those with a practical focus. It allows candidates to study towards a professional, nationally recognised qualification leading to Qualified Teacher Status in the Learning and Skills Sector (QTLS). Through a series of workshops, focussing on experience in the workplace, learners will develop their skills, experience and knowledge and this will be reinforced through a range of online learning experiences, research, written tasks and lesson observations. Mentoring and tutor support in the workplace will be an important element in course delivery. Through a series of units, candidates will create a portfolio of evidence to demonstrate their ability to meet the standards of the profession.

Additional Notes

Learners are required to elect a mentor who will guide them within their specialist subject area. The reference to Exam (in fees section) relates to the registration fee payable to the qualification awarding body. This fee is appromately £153 payable in year 1 only. There is no formal exam to sit; assessment is achieved by successful completion of assignments.

Entry Criteria

Must be able to complete 150 hours teaching during the course period. Subject-specific qualifications at level 3 and/or professional experience in the subject which you are teaching. Minimum level 2 literacy; minimum level 1 numeracy and ICT with expectation to work towards level 2 You must be able to identify a mentor who will support you in the teaching of your specialist subject. If you have PTLLS (Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector) or CTLLS (Certificate in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector) you will be exempt from one or more units of the course. If you do not have PTLLS, you will need to enrol and pay for this part of the course separately.

Progression Details

You can progress from this course to a Diploma in Higher Education and BA (Hons) Education in Professional Practice.
