About This CourseThis is a first stage six week full-time programme (plus one week's study time) to enable students to teach English as a Foreign Language. It is internationally recognised and validated by the University of Cambridge local examinations syndicate. The course is essentially practical; all input, written work and teaching practice being focused on the needs of the teacher in the classroom. Students must complete a minimum of six hours teaching practice and eight hours observation of EFL lecturers in the classroom. The aim of the course is to develop: * practical awareness of the learners (their needs, motivation and difficulties) * language (grammar, phonology, functions and meaning) * materials (course, reference and resource books and authentic material) * practical ability in classroom management and lesson planning, introduction and practice of a new language, development of skills of reading, writing, speaking and listening. Entry CriteriaNormally two 'A' Levels, although candidates with other skills and experience but few formal qualifications will be considered. Candidates must demonstrate native speaker competence in English language. All candidates will be required to attend an interview and undertake a written task. Progression DetailsAfter two years' full-time teaching experience students can study for the DELTA (Diploma in English Language Teaching to Adults) qualification.
