About This Course

If you like making things and enjoy working with wood, this could be an ideal career for you. Carpenters make and install wooden fixtures and fittings as part of construction projects. They also undertake flooring and roofing projects such as real wood and laminate installations. As a carpenter you may work in one or more of the following areas: cutting and shaping timber for floorboards, skirting boards and window frames doors, window frames, staircases and fitted furniture installing and fitting wooden structures, like floor and roof joists, roof timbers, staircases, partition walls, and door and window frames (first fixings) installing skirting boards, door surrounds, doors, cupboards and shelving, as well as door handles and locks (second fixings) Domestic roofing structures To become a carpenter you will need to have: · good practical skills · an organised approach to work · an eye for detail · the ability to follow technical drawings and plans · good maths skills for measuring and working out angles · the ability to work as part of a team and unsupervised Salary range: £8000 - £28,000+ Average hours per week: 40

Additional Notes

Steel toe capped shoes/boots and sturdy clothing to protect your body will be required.

Entry Criteria

You will require 4 GCSE grades A* - D including Maths and English.

Progression Details

Upon successfully completing your Level 2 qualification you will be able to seek advanced apprenticeship placements or enter the work environment.
