About the course
The new BSc / Post Graduate Certificate in Practice Education Programme has been designed to provide an integrated, coherent and multi-disciplinary/multi-professional pathway to support practice education.
The programme is for Registered Health Care Professionals who wish to further develop their knowledge and skills in practice education and is also for those wishing to undertake the role of mentor and practice teacher.
The programme ensures that stages 2 and 3 of the NMC Standards to Support Learning and Assessment in Practice (2008) are met in order to enable NMC registrants to register on Provider Services mentor/sign off mentor/practice teacher data-bases.

The full programme comprises of a pathway of three modules;
- PRED 3000 Principles and Practice of Mentorship
(15 credits at level 6) is designed for practitioners who wish to take on the role of mentor/sign-off mentor in the practice environment. The module will run in semesters 1, 2 and X. Please refer to the module information for exact dates.
OR
- PRED 3003 Personal and Professional Development in Practice
Education
(15 credits at level 6). This module is for practitioners who have already completed an approved mentorship module and are practising and experienced mentors/sign off mentors and annotated as such onto their providers locally held register.This module will run in semesters 1 or 2. Please refer to the module information for exact dates.
- PRED 3001 or 5001 Education in Practice 1
(15 credits at level 6 or 7) and PRED 3002/5002 Education in Professional Practice 2 (30 credits at level 6 or 7) are both designed for practitioners who wish to further develop their knowledge and skills in practice education and for those wishing to undertake the role of practice teacher. This module will run in semester 1 or 2. Please refer to the module information for exact dates.
AND
- PRED 3002 or 5002 Education in Practice 2
(15 credits at level 6 or 7) and PRED 3002/5002 Education in Professional Practice 2 (30 credits at level 6 or 7) are both designed for practitioners who wish to further develop their knowledge and skills in practice education and for those wishing to undertake the role of practice teacher. Entry and admission criteria
BSc Students must:- Have an effective registration with the NMC/HCPC or other an appropriate Professional statutory regulatory body
- Have a minimum of one year’s post-registration experience, normally within a health practice setting
- Possess 120 credits at levels 4 and 5 that has not previously been counted towards a degree award OR
- Have a minimum of three years post-registration experience, normally within a health practice setting
- Possess 120 credits at level 4 and a minimum of 30 credits at level 5 that has not previously been counted towards a degree award
- Possess competence in the use of the English language to the satisfaction of the University
- Have the ability to study successfully at Degree Level
- Have access to a student/learner to support
- Have an appropriate supervisor (mentor/sign off mentor/ practice teacher) as required
Applicants who fall short of the above entry requirements may use the APA mechanism to contribute towards the above criteria.
PG Cert. Practice Education Standard entry requirements students must:
- Have an effective registration with the NMC/HCPC or other an appropriate Professional statutory regulatory body
- Have a minimum of one year’s post-registration experience, normally within a health practice setting
- Possess competence in the use of the English language to the satisfaction of the University
- Possess a UK honours degree with at least second class honours, or an academic or professional qualification deemed by the University as equivalent
- Have the ability to study successfully at level 7
- Have access to a student/learner to support
- Have an appropriate supervisor (mentor/sign off mentor/ practice teacher) as required
Applicants who fall short of the above entry requirements may use the APA mechanism to contribute towards the above criteria.
