This award aims to provide participants with a sound introduction to the concepts of teaching. It can be an intensive course over five days (straddling a weekend) or as a 10-week evening class.

It is ideal for those who are considering a career change into teaching adults. Participants teach a 30 minute microlesson and complete a number of written assignments at either Level 3 or 4. This course is ideal preparation for progression onto the CertEd/PGCE.

Initial assessment of literacy numeracy. Micro teaching (for 30 minutes). Five learning outcomes covering session planning roles and responsibilities teaching and learning approaches development of inclusive learning and use of different assessment methods.

This module is delivered both in the classroom and online so you get excellent learning materials as well as local classroom tuition and support. It means that you can complete your units of study efficiently so that you get the skills you need to start a business at a time and place to suit you.

Students will gain an overview of the teaching/training role. The micro lesson gives students the opportunity to plan and deliver a teaching session. This can help build confidence and develop skills in delivery of teaching.

Entry to the course is via an application form and an interview of about half an hour with the Course Leader/Tutor. To enter the course students must be suitably qualified for the subject(s) they wish to teach (normally at least a Level 3 qualification) and have GCSE English (grade A-C) or equivalent. Applicants are also required to take a free writing assessment of literacy to Level 2.

This course is ideal preparation for progression onto the CertEd/PGCE.
