NVQ 3 Beauty Therapy (Body)

Expand your practical beauty skills, build your beauty career, and achieve an internationally recognised qualification on the NVQ 3 Beauty Therapy (Body) course. This one year full-time course will develop your professional skills and confidence to kick start or further your career in salons, spas and other beauty-related areas, or even start your own business.

The course covers the following areas: body massage, Indian head massage, stone therapy massage with pre-blended oils, aromatherapy, G5 and audio sonic, and anatomy and physiology. You'll also study professional employment development, health and safety, selling techniques and functional skills.

Continuous assessments are undertaken during the year. They include oral and written exams, practical assessments and written assignments, case studies, and a portfolio of evidence and work. A minimum of 85% attendance is required by the Examining Board and the college for the successful completion of the qualification.

You'll learn through discussions, expert demonstrations by experienced beauty practitioners, and practical activities in our industry-standard facilities. Our salon facilities are open to the public and are run like a professional salon so you'll have the opportunity to practice your skills on customers and gain work experience in the industry. You'll also develop your hairdressing skills during a work placement at a salon in the local area.

You will develop your salon management skills in our industry-standard facilities. Throughout the course you will be supported by expert beauty tutors to ensure successful completion of the course and realistic work experience.

Applicants for a Level 3 programme will normally have at least 4 GCSEs at Grade C or above (including some subjects related to the proposed area of study) and/or a completed Level 2 award, and the willingness to study for an additional Level 2 qualification in English and/or Maths. Career destinations include health and beauty salons, leisure centres in hotels or clubs, spas, health farms and cruise ships. NVQs in beauty therapy can also lead to specialist training e.g. TV make-up, theatre work, or working for a cosmetic company.
