HND Engineering: Mechanical

Overview

This two year course is designed for people who want to study mechanical engineering to a professional standard. Graduates from the course typically go to university or move into industry in a supervisory or management role. This course involves the use of the College’s extensive engineering equipment which includes a fully-functioning workshop and computer labs running CAD design and hydraulic Pneumatic software, Practical Renewable Energy Project, Engineering Workshop Skills.

First year

• NC in an appropriate Engineering subject, OR
• Two Higher Grades – Maths and one other (we’d prefer Physics).

Direct entry to second year

• HNC Mechanical Engineering.
• Before we offer you a place, we’ll invite you to an interview.

More Information

1st year subjects are the same as the HNC program.

Some of the subjects you’ll study in second year are Applied Industrial Plant Maintenance, Mathematics for Engineering 2, Plant Systems, Heat Transfer and Fluid Mechanics, Strength of Materials Advanced, Renewable Energy Units 1&2. Mathematics for Engineers 3 is available for those wishing to apply for University.

Career

Engineering technician, supervisory or management.

Continuing study

Apply for 3rd year entry into Glasgow Caledonian University BEng Renewable Energy Degree programs. Entry into B Eng/BSc programs at other universities or Incorporated Engineer qualification.

Two years, starting in August.
