They were developed by LLUK to replace the Assessor and Verifier (A&V) units which expired on 31 December 2010.The TAQA units and qualifications provide people who carry out assessment and internal quality assurance roles in their organisation with the opportunity to develop and improve their practice as well as achieving a professional qualification for their roles. The qualifications consist of a mix of units - some competence-based and some knowledge-based units. The knowledge-only units (which are titled 'Understanding the principles and practices of...') allow anyone who is interested in or needs to know about assessment and quality assurance - but is not a practitioner - to acquire knowledge and information about the roles. Units included as part of the level 3 qualification for assessment programme:-
· Understanding the principles and practices of assessment - (3 credits)
· Assess occupational competence in the work environment - (6 credits)
· Assess vocational skills, knowledge and understanding - (6 credits)
Successful achievers will understand the principles of assessment and internal quality assurance and have the knowledge to develop and improve systems at their centre.

Course Length: Approximately 3 months Entry Requirements:

To complete units 302 or 303 you must be occupationally competent. You must also have identified at least two candidates undertaking training/assessment that you are able to assess.

Core Skills:

You will study:

  • Developing plans for assessing competence with candidates
  • Judging evidence against agreed standards to make assessment decisions
  • Giving candidates feedback and support on your assessment decisions
  • Contributing to the internal quality assurance process.
Assessment:

You will work with your assessor to compile a portfolio of evidence. You will also be observed by your assessor whilst carrying out your assessments.

Career Progression:

Following achievement of the above qualifications, you could progress on to a Level 4 Award / Certificate in Assuring the Quality of Assessment.

Full Description:

This qualification is open to anyone who is carrying out assessment and quality assurance roles.

This qualification covers the assessment of a range of vocational areas.

The pathways include:

Undertaking the ‘Award in Understanding the Principles and Practice of Assessment’ (Unit 1) will give you a good understanding of the assessment process. It will be suitable for those who need to have knowledge of how the assessment process works – but who do not need to assess.

  • It may cover assessment of oral and written questions, assignments, projects, etc.
  • The ‘Award in Assessing Vocationally Relevant Achievement’ (units 1 & 3) will enable you to assess underpinning knowledge and understanding of the vocational area in environments other than the workplace, for example, workshops, classrooms or other training environments.The ‘Award in Assessing Occupational competence in the Work Environment’ (Units 1 & 2) is for those who will be assessing the more practical vocational skills in the workplace

Undertaking the ‘Award in Understanding the Principles and Practice of Assessment’ (Unit 1) - £450

‘Award in Assessing Occupational competence in the Work Environment’ (Units 1 & 2) - £650

‘Award in Assessing Vocationally Relevant Achievement’ (units 1 & 3) - £650

‘Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement’/ (Units 1, 2 & 3) - £850
