Course Length: Two years Course Schedule: Two days a week during school term time 9.00am to 3.00pm. Entry Requirements:
You will need to be on target to achieving a combined score of 15 or more in your English, Maths and Science Key Stage three assessment, have a very good record regarding behaviour and motivation, and above average attendance.
Academic Progression:The Higher Diploma is designed to keep your options open. It is worth seven GCSEs at grades A*-C. It could lead to the Sport and Active Leisure Advanced Diploma, one of the other Advanced Diplomas available, another Level three course at the College or an Apprenticeship with an employer. Full Description:Course Description:
In the Higher Diploma, you will learn about the work of the sport and leisure sector in more detail. Focusing on the three main areas of study – the individual, the industry and the community – you will cover more topics including anatomy, the design and development of new products, the role of the media and communication techniques. You will learn how to motivate yourself and others in sport or activities with coaching, planning and officiating skills. The course will also introduce you to the principles of running a business in the sport and active leisure sector. There are also opportunities to specialise in areas of sport, fitness, playwork, stadium management and safety, the outdoors, sport surfaces and many more. During the course, you will be able to do at least ten days work experience, which is a great way to apply what you have learnt in a working environment.
